How can I determine what type of DVD I can record to from my Philips DVD8421?

i have tryed dvd+rw and dvd r's keeps saying please insert a Blank Dvd ? help hell they cant get any balnker and can they be watched on my tv dvd player

if the
DVD+RW is fresh out the pack then this is the case if not you have to format it first cos is re-writable. and most home dvd players will play DVD-R but not DVD-RW and even less likley DVD+R and DVD-RW.

your drive is a + format drive so should record onto it.
theres a firmwire update for your drive..
