What does this mean in a DVD recording CD?
I bought a Memorex DVD-RW disk. On the package it says it's 4X. Is that the speed? If yes, then it's the speed of what? So if I want to burn a movie then the speed of the burning must be at 4X? If the speed is higher, would that give errors?
The disc you are using is re writable, that's the RW part. Those disks have slower write speeds than write once, standard DVD-R discs.
The 4X is the maximum burn speed. Most burners/software should detect this but you can force a faster speed. You are correct, it would cause errors and possibly ruin the disc if you try to go faster, so you'll just waste your time and waste a disc. Read speeds however will still be similar to a standard disc. I have noticed that they can be a bit slower, but overall not much different.
