Will Blu-ray take over as the standard disc format?
Well, there's a good chance that it will because it holds 25 Gb of data (50 GB dual-layered) so there's bound to be a lot of bonus content and high quality content for Blu-Ray discs and Playstation 3 games...unless HD-DVD has some other feature.
We won't know the winner of the format war for quite some time. Most BluRay owners(mostly PS3 owners) want this to end sooner most likely because they dished out 500 to 600 bucks for their PS3. What many people don't realize is that the VHS/Betamax format war lasted 10 years. Movies were being released on both formats until finally BetaMax sales fell off enough to discontinue it. This coming Xmas season, many PS3s will be sold, but lower-priced HD DVD players will be sold as well. Anyone wishing for the format war to end within the next year or so just doesn't understand how the market works. There's a better chance of Disney and Fox eventually supporting HD DVD then there is for the format war ending. And with that said, this will eventually happen, where ALL studios begin to release movies on both formats. It may cost them more money to do so but the return will greatly justify it. I figure within the next two or three years, and depending on current agreements Studios have with each format, we'll see more studios releasing movies on both sides.
